“Digging into old newspaper articles to learn about the historic distribution of sawfish.”

Until recently it was thought that sawfish only existed in the Gulf of Carpenteria but researchers led zoologist Dr Barbara Wueringer, the Director and Principal Scientist at Sharks & Rays Australia, have found historic evidence that sawfish used to be far more abundant and widely distributed before trophy fishing and gill nets reduced their populations.

Barbara has been studying sawfish for 16 years and in this podcast, she talks about her work to  uncover the story of the elusive sawfish and how historic newspapers articles shed new light on the species.
