The rate of loss has slowed and in some places wetlands are increasing as we build artificial wetlands in the landscape

Nathan Waltham, Senior Principal Researcher at JCU, is an expert in coastal ecosystems ecology.

In this Reef & Rivers podcast, Nathan talks about the importance of coastal wetlands and the impacts of having to compete with humans for coastal views.

We know from the Report Card that wetlands extent in the Wet Tropics has been heavily impacted by urbanisation but Nathan’s work reveals that the rate of loss has changed over the last 20 years and in fact, in some areas, wetlands are increasing because we’re building artificial wetlands that are providing new habitat. Listen in to find out more.
