Ports North

Ports North manages the ports of Cairns, Cape Flattery, Karumba, Mourilyan, Skardon River, Quintell Beach, Thursday Island, Burketown and Cooktown. They support and engage in a range of monitoring projects to understand the physical, biological and cultural attributes of the areas surrounding their ports.

These include:

  • Long term seagrass monitoring (by supporting TropWater at James Cook University) in Cairns Harbour and Trinity Inlet, and at Karumba, Mourilyan and Thursday Island
  • Sediment Quality Analysis
  • Water Quality Sampling
  • Facilitation of biosecurity and marine pest monitoring
  • The study of Benthic Communities on the sea floor
